Let’s talk about how home organization ideas can help with healing. An organized space starts with an organized mind! Make a plan on how to get organized. Spending less time looking for stuff will decrease feelings of frustration and annoyance. Organization is about having systems in place that help us better manage our time. When we’re organized we can get what we need and move on. No frustration. No sweat. Disorganization, on the other hand, will make us feel overwhelmed, distracted, or annoyed. Remember our outer world affects our inner world. In essence, if decluttering is king then organizing is queen!
Storage Is Essential
Secondly, when it comes to home organization ideas, suitable storage is essential. You need to have the right kind and size of storage for your space and for your items. Without the right kind of storage, things can look sloppy, out of place, and disorganized. When our things are organized, it facilitates our efficiency and focus. When a space is organized, we are more likely to want to be in that space. Have you ever avoided a room or perhaps….the garage because it was overcrowded with too much stuff, unorganized, and just so, so overwhelming! We avoid it because it doesn’t make us feel good. Because we feel guilty it looks like that. Or just the thought of tackling the problem is exhausting. But it’s all about having the right storage for our stuff. And once we have adequate storage, well then it’s time to declutter. It doesn’t have to be done all at once. Plan it out in your head or write down your plan of action. Every step is a step in the right direction. Reminding yourself of how you will feel after the final outcome will help you to stick to the plan.
The Value in Getting Organized
If organizing is something you enjoy or if you would like to take it to the next level, I mean life changing next level, then I highly recommend reading Marie Kondo’s book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up.
Before and After Home Organization Ideas
Here is a good example of how not having suitable storage makes being organized much more difficult. This clothing dresser is flimsy and too small. Though it has a lot of drawers, the drawers are too small and thin for the amount of clothing in them. Believe me it was frustrating trying to find what I needed because everything was shoved in there. And I had difficulty pulling the drawers out because they were weighed down by the clothing. I do admit it’s over stuffed with clothing so some letting go was in order.
Here is the after photo of a dresser that better met my storage needs. This photo is more conducive to relaxation … right? I did go through some of my clothing and donated what I no longer needed. So this made a little extra room. I also started rolling my clothing instead of folding it which also allowed for more space. The dresser is all wood so it’s sturdy and the drawers are long and deep so there is a lot of room. I found this refurbished darling on Craig’s List. This dresser actually ended up being more useful than I thought. The space behind the door on the right was actually the perfect size for my dirty laundry basket. And I am so glad it’s hidden!
